Swamp Fox Quilters History

The Swamp Fox Quilters Guild was started in the fall of 1980 by an energetic lady, Margie Notess, who worked for the Florence Recreation Department. The first few meetings were held at the old Timrod Park Schoolhouse with approximately 10 ladies attending. With Margie at the helm different programs and demonstrations were held.  Experienced quilters in the guild shared their knowledge with others with interest in learning this wonderful art form. Current charter members are Lorene Arnette and Martha Herbert. The guild has grown over the past 40 plus years to approximately 80 members.

Throughout the years the guild has hosted shows and exhibitions. The Swamp Fox Quilters in conjunction with the Hartsville Museum in Hartsville, SC displays the Challenge quilts done by members from June to August annually.

Expert quilt instructors have presented classes which have encouraged new and diverse techniques and skills.
